Question Printer Friendly

I need to rebuild my search index, or I currently do not have one and need to create a new one. However the process seems to take forever, how can I speed this up.

Answer

(Re)building a search index is a process that takes place in the background in order to minimize the impact on your server and permit your visitors to use your site. This is especially important for large databases.

If, however, your goal is to get the index done as fast as possible without regard to site performance, do the following:

Create an empty file in the root webx directory named indexFastBuild, before you start the server (or create it, shut down and restart). Then building the search be as quick as possible (e.g. as much CPU is given to it as possible, which degrades the responsiveness of the server but builds the index as quickly as possible).
