Question Printer Friendly

I am running the JAVA chat, and have done one or more of the following:

  • Updated the applet version on my server.
  • Installed a chat macro on a pre-existing chat room.
  • Made changes to a chat macro.
  • Changed the server chat port.

and I (or others) am not seeing any change when I enter the chat room! Web Crossing must be broken.

Answer

This solution assumes you have properly checked for bugs in your macro(s) and that you remembered to "Reset file cache for HTML files and webx.tpl templates."

This isn't a problem with Web Crossing, but is side affect of how browsers deal with JAVA applets. JAVA applet parameters aren't generally something that is dynamic, and as such browsers "hard cache" the applet. The result if that even if the applet code has changed, or you alter the applet's PARAMeters with a macro, the browser still uses the one in its cache memory.

What you need to do is to completely flush (clear/delete) your browser's cache(s). This can be one or more of the following depending on your browser: Memory Cache and Disk Cache, or Temporary Internet Files. Some recent JAVA implementations have their own Control Panel for adjusting various parameters. If so, you may also need to use that control panel's option to purge the JAVA cache.

Close the browser, then reenter the chat room.
