I am running OS9 multihomed. I run another web server and want to also run Web Crossing on its own IP address in Direct Web Service Mode.
1) Can I do this?
2) When I did this, even though I set the Web Services Control Panel to IP:port specifically, Web Crossing appears to be taking over all the IPs.
Web Crossing must be broken. |
Answer |
The problem actually lies within the operating system and not web crossing. OS9, by Apple's own documentation, is not truly multihomed. You can set up multiple IPs, but you cannot actually bind a specific service to a specific IP:
See:
http://developer.apple.com/macos/opentransport/docs/user/Open_Transport_1.1_Manual.pdf
Specifically noted:
As used in this chapter, a TCP/IP interface is the point of
attachment of a host to a TCP/IP network. In the case of a
multihomed host, the user can configure more than one
TCP/IP interface. At present, the architecture of Open
Transport TCP/IP supports multihoming, but it is not yet
possible to configure a multihomed host. Therefore, all
functions designed to return information about all the
TCP/IP interfaces on a host return information about a
single interface.
In order to do this you need to run another operating system. |
