How can I get Web Crossing JAVA chat to work through a firewall? |
Answer |
The basic rules for getting Chat to work through a firewall restricted to port 80 are:
- The WebX server must be running in direct service mode. (It cannot be running as a CGI under another web server.)
- The Chat Client port must be set to 80.
- If you are running NAT'd, you must also set the "This server's virtual address:" in the secondary chat control panel. The link is at the top of the screen and is part of the text "This panel allows you to configure this Web Crossing server to provide text-based chat. To have multiple servers cooperating to provide chat services, please use the more general Chat Services panel."
- Version 3.0 and earlier, there also must be no other service running on Port 80 on the same server machine, even under a different IP address.
- The chat server IP and the Direct Web Service IP must be the same
