I cannot seem to get email working and/or notification working and/or incoming email posts to be accepted.

Answer

  1. Make sure you have set at least one domain for your server in Control Panel / Email Services

    • This domain MUST be associated with your Web Crossing site. It **cannot** be a domain name that belongs to some other server. If it does, then email directed to that domain will go to the other server and not to Web Crossing and probably be rejected.
    • Likewise outgoing email may well be viewed as a forgery by receiving servers and it will be trashed or rejected as spam. Neither of these situations is any fault of your Web Crossing server and it is not within our control.

  2. If you want to be able to receive email, make sure you have Incoming SMTP checked.
  3. If you want to use your server as an SMTP relay (to allow you to send email via your server from an outside mail client) make sure to turn on SMTP Relay
  4. Make sure a DNS IP address is set. Note this an IP and not a domain name (N/A to WCI Hosted sites).
  5. Make sure your site's DNS server knows about your WebX server! For example, if your domain is abc.com, make sure the MX records for abc.com are set to your WebX server. This is a DNS server setting outside of WebX and allows for email to be properly routed to your Web Crossing Server
  6. And similar to above, make sure you are using a valid email domain name. Many recipient SMTP servers will not accept email from non-existant or forged domain names. Some also require that a reverse DNS lookup on the domain name be the same IP address as the IP address of the sending server.
  7. For email validation be sure you have entered and email address in the "Reply address for validation messages:" of the Registered Users Control Panel
  8. Finally be sure you do not have any other email server operating that could be interfering with Web Crossing. Sendmail is a common one. Make sure it does not bind your WebX IP address.
