We've lost the sysop password for our site. Can you recover it for me?

Answer

Support cannot recover a lost sysop password, but there is a way to get out of this situation.

PLEASE NOTE: The following method has only been tested
in versions 4.1+

This special macro will change your site's "sysop" password, present you the new pw on the screen, and email it to the sysop address and the site's address. THIS MACRO IS NOT FOR WEB CROSSING EXPRESS 5.0 VERSIONS! Contact support if this is you.

It will work only on the user name "sysop" who actually has sysop privileges (if for whatever reason you no longer have a user "sysop" who has sysop privs, you'll need to contact support).

You may run this macro only once each 24 hours.

In addition, this macro will remove itself from your system. While these measures may seem extreme, they are designed to at least frustrate efforts to use this macro for mischief, and to prevent you from forgetting to remove this macro and leaving others a backdoor.

Use of this macro is provided "as-is" and without warranty. You agree not to hold Elliptics LTD or any employee or agent of Elliptics LTD responsible for any damages. IOW - it's not our fault you forgot or lost your password, so don't blame us if something goes wrong while trying to help you

Example
Place the following resetSysop.tpl macro into your root webx
directory (v4.1) or webxTemplates directory (v5.0+).

Edit webx.tpl and add the following line at the top,
or better yet rename your webx.tpl and use ours below:

<!--#Include File="resetSysop.tpl"-->

then reset your cache...

or stop and restart the server.

Finally, just access your site:

Ex: http://yoursite.com/webx
